How We Help

Psychological Evaluations

Tim and Ashley work together to offer practical evaluations, focusing heavily on a child's context and family system. We use psychological assessment tools, including personality, projective, and cognitive testing, and family interviews to understand a child's strengths and challenges. Our goal is to understand a child's challenging behavior in a new light, and to help children and their families unlock new understandings of themselves and each other. We work from a model called Collaborative/Therapeutic Assessment, in which we see children and families as co-explorers in the evaluation process.

Feedback Sessions and Therapeutic Fables

While we are experts in psychological testing, we know that you and your child are experts on your family. At the conclusion of testing, we will meet with you for a feedback session, in which we will discuss the results of the evaluation and seek your input on the best way to understand the results in the context of your family. We also offer therapeutic fables, which are a way of communicating testing results in the metaphorical form of a story. Our goal with a therapeutic fable is to write a story that makes your child feel understood and offers a new way of thinking about difficulties.

Fees/Cost/Insurance

We are private pay only at this time. While we do not bill insurance, we are happy to provide an invoice if you would like to use your out-of-network benefits. After our free preliminary consultation, we will quote you a price for the evaluation based on the complexity of the referral question and how much time we anticipate the evaluation will take. Costs typically range between $2000-$4000 for a full evaluation; this includes as much testing and interviewing as necessary to answer your referral questions, the psychological evaluation report, a therapeutic fable (if indicated and agreed on), a feedback session, and an hour of consultation with your child's treatment providers. We take payment up-front before scheduling; we are a very small practice, and this reserves your place on our quickly-filling schedule. If you have financial constraints, let us know during the preliminary consultation and we will consider how to best work within your budget and/or structure a payment plan.
