Specializing in psychological evaluations with children, adolescents, and families in Salem, Oregon

What to Expect

Free Preliminary Consultation

We know the decision to pursue a psychological evaluation for your child is a complex and personal one. That's why we offer a 30-minute free consultation by phone or Zoom about your concerns and what you're hoping to learn from the evaluation process. There is no obligation - this is simply an opportunity for you to get to know us and for us to gather information about what you're looking for. At the end of the consultation, we'll let you know if we think an evaluation will be helpful, and if so, what the cost of that evaluation with us would be.

Initial Parent Interview

If you decide you'd like to pursue a psychological evaluation with us, we will first schedule an initial parent interview, which may take place in person or by Zoom. During this time, we will gather more information about your concerns, as well as the history of your child and family. This typically takes 1-2 hours.

Testing Appointment(s)

Psychological testing appointments with the child typically take place in-person. During this time, we will get to know your child and administer a variety of psychological testing instruments carefully selected to answer your questions and address your concerns. Length and number of testing appointments varies depending on the age of the child and the complexity of the presenting concerns; testing typically totals 3-4 hours with a 1-hour break, but may be broken into shorter appointments as necessary or desired.

Feedback Session/Therapeutic Fable

Once testing is complete, we will schedule feedback sessions for you and your child. During the feedback session, we will talk with you about the testing results and the way we are understanding your child and their challenges. This session may take place in person or by Zoom. If you and your child are interested, feedback sessions may include the sharing of a therapeutic fable, which is a story we write to share the testing results in a metaphorical way.

Psychological Evaluation Report

At the conclusion of the evaluation, we will write a full psychological evaluation report documenting the results of the testing, our understanding of your child, and our recommendations. You will receive a copy of this report for your records, and you are welcome and encouraged to share it with your child's treatment providers.

Consultation with Other Providers

As requested, we are happy to schedule a consultation with your child's treatment providers to share the results of the testing and our recommendations.
